This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required for employment as an Advanced Engineering Tradesperson – Level II within the metal, engineering, manufacturing, and associated industries or at equivalent levels in other industries where engineering tradespersons work. The qualification has been specifically developed to meet the needs of apprentices in an engineering trade who choose to study at a higher level during their apprenticeship, or for people who are existing engineering tradespersons.
It provides the skills and knowledge for a person to undertake quality control, exercise good interpersonal and communications skills, work from complex instructions and procedures, provide technical guidance or assistance within the scope of responsibility, prepare reports of a technical nature on specific tasks or assignments, exercise broad discretion within the scope of responsibility, perform work under limited supervision either individually or in a team environment, be responsible for assuring the quality of their own work, provide trade guidance and assistance as part of a work team, perform non-trade tasks which are incidental or peripheral to the primary tasks and facilitate the completion of the whole task, inspect products and/or materials for conformity with established operational standards, operate lifting equipment incidental to their work and assists in the provision of training in conjunction with supervisors and trainers.
Further training pathways from this qualification include transition into technical work through completion of the MEM50222 Diploma of Engineering – Technical or MEM60122 Advanced Diploma of Engineering or other relevant qualifications.

The Diploma of Engineering – Advanced Trade specifies the competencies required for employment as an Advanced Engineering Tradesperson – Level II in mechanical, electrical/ electronic or fabrication trade disciplines.
The job role involves application of advanced system level skills in the learner’s trade and may also include cross skills from other trades. Job roles may include the design, assembly, manufacture, installation, modification, testing, fault finding, commissioning, maintenance and service of mechanical, electrical or electronic systems including related equipment and machinery, fabrication of structures and assemblies requiring advanced manufacturing and assembly techniques, sheet metal work requiring advanced manufacturing and assembly techniques as well as use of relevant machinery, equipment and joining techniques. Machinery and equipment can include fluid power systems, stationary and mobile equipment, instruments, refrigeration, and the use of computer controlled machine tools.
Employment outcomes related to this qualification are found in a wide variety of manufacturing and engineering related sectors as well as Advanced Engineering Tradesperson – Level II related roles in other industries.
To undertake this program, students must be undertaking an apprenticeship.
An Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits.
Students must be employed in a role that enables them access to appropriate workplace tasks.
AIE will confirm the suitability of the learner's employment prior to commencement.
All students must undertake a LL&N assessment as part of the enrollment process. Credit may be granted towards this qualification by those who have completed relevant qualifications.
The assessments include theory and practical tasks and will be clearly documented in the assessment documents. Assessments will include tasks such as written questions, practical demonstrations and workplace evidence reports.
This program is to be delivered through facilitated online training sessions occurring fortnightly (2 hours) and practical skills training will occur through a minimum of 3-4 face to face visits at the student's workplace.
For practical components/ skills, the Trainer will coordinate with the employer to ensure access to suitable environments for practical training to occur.
Learners will also be supplied with Learner Guides for each unit delivered and will work through the learning activities during self-study time. Learning activities will give learners the opportunity to practice and prepare for assessments.
Learners will have the opportunity to apply and test their new knowledge and skills through their employment and on-the-job training within their business.

This course has been designed to be delivered over 2-4 years in apprenticeship contract.
This course also looks at the competence of the apprentice during the training.

RPL Assessment only training could be completed by candidates that have around 6 years of industry experience.
Our expert team will carefully assess your experience including past qualifications, relevant skills, and industry knowledge. Information about your knowledge and experience will be aligned to the relevant components of the qualification. You will receive recognition for the units or modules in which you have demonstrated either competency or similarity of learning outcomes, and you will only need to complete any remaining units to receive the qualification.
To apply for RPL simply submit an enquiry so we can provide you with the appropriate application form. Along with this form you will also need to supply any relevant documentation that supports your application including existing qualifications and evidence of your previous roles.
The cost for RPL in a VET course will vary depending on the number of units of competency you successfully gain recognition for, the fee structure of the course and any assessment or training required. You will be provided with an approximate cost for your unique situation when you apply.
Australian Institute Of Engineering as a Registered Training Organisation recognises the Australian Qualifications Framework qualifications and Statement of Attainments issued by any other Australian Registered Training Organisation.
Students are encouraged to submit any requests for credit from previous studies at the time of enrolment, to ensure they are not enrolling in units they may not need to undertake.
In order to apply for exemption/credit transfer from units completed at another training organisation, you will need to complete an Application for credit transfer Form available from AIE campus, or team, or a copy of the form can be obtained from AIE Website.
Your completed Application for credit transfer form together with attached documentary evidence (certified copy of Qualification/Statement of Attainment) to support your request for exemption/credit transfer should be submitted directly to AIE either in person or by email. Requests without documentary evidence will not be processed and will be returned to students. There are no fees attached to Credit Transfers.

Successful completion of the course will result in you being awarded the Qualification of Diploma of Engineering – Advanced Trade (MEM50119). Should the student successfully complete only one or more of the Units of Competency, but not the required 49 Units of Competency, the student will be issued with a Statement of Attainment at the time of completion or withdrawal.
For re- issuance of Certificates and Statements of Attainments the student will be charged $25 per document required. Payment for the re-issuance of such documents is required prior to the re-issuance occurring by the RTO.
